da roleta: Leeds United have been well covered in the full-back spots this season which has helped them boast the best defence in the Championship, conceding just seven goals.
Ezgjan Alioski and 2018 addition Barry Douglas have been controlling the left-back slot this campaign, with Alioski, in particular, showing stellar form throughout the season thus far. The Macedonian has averaged a rating of 6.93, scored twice and averaged 1.8 tackles and 1.4 shots per game, as per WhoScored.
However, it seems Marcelo Bielsa is after more strength in depth with the addition of Coventry star Sam McCallum. As reported by the Football Insider, the 19-year-old is being watched by Leeds, having had scouts visit Sky Blues matches home and away this season.
McCallum has justifiably so been attracting much attention, with the teenager proving to be one of League One’s best left-backs this season, averaging a rating of 6.99 after his six appearances in the league. Within this time, the former non-league man has proved to be a solid defensive asset, making 2.7 clearances per game and averaging 1.2 tackles each match.
Going forward down the left flank, although he hasn’t scored or assisted, McCallum has averaged 3.2 long balls per league fixture and has even been fouled 1.7 times per game, whilst completing one dribble per match. Compare this to Leeds’ back-up left-back Douglas, who has averaged only 0.3 dribbles per game and just o.8 tackles in the same amount of league appearances, and it is fair to say that the Coventry man could be a test for the Scot.

Most recently against Tranmere Rovers, McCallum put in a Man of the Match display, registering a rating of 7.6 and making three tackles and winning five aerial duels. However, in truth, the teenager would struggle to dislodge Alioski in his current form, but considering his age and the form of Douglas, perhaps the step up to the Championship would be beneficial for both him and Leeds.
Bielsa should seriously be considering signing this young left-back, as he may turn out to be a great addition for any Championship side in the near future.
