da blaze casino: Aston Villa will lock horns with bitter rivals Birmingham City in the Championship this weekend, with Dean Smith’s side looking for their third straight league success.
The Chalkboard
There is no getting away from the fact that it has been a difficult few months for Villa, but things have started to look up in recent weeks.
Indeed, back-to-back wins over Bolton Wanderers and Derby County have elevated the team into 11th position in the Championship table, and they are actually only four points off the playoff positions as things stand.
Villa will host 12th-placed Birmingham, and the fact that the rivals will enter Sunday’s match on the same number of points adds more spice.
Villa are actually unbeaten in the last six meetings between the two teams in all competitions, with Birmingham’s last success arriving back in December 2010.
Going further back, Villa have won nine of the last 14 – losing just once – and the hosts will fancy their chances of picking up all three points this weekend.
Abraham key to Villa’s chances
Villa beat a number of clubs to the loan signing of Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham during the summer, and the forward has made a strong start to the season.
Indeed, the England international has netted five times in 11 Championship appearances, and was on the scoresheet in the fine 3-0 win at Derby last time out.

If Villa can find a way of fully utilising the 6ft 3in ace then they will have a wonderful chance of picking up the win this weekend.
Birmingham have only conceded 20 times in their 17 league matches this season, however, and Villa have not been without their problems this term.
It will be a fascinating battle to see the two teams lock horns on Sunday afternoon, and Abraham, who still has ambitions of becoming Chelsea’s main centre-forward, will be desperate to fire Villa to all three points.
