da bet nacional: According to reports in the Sunday Mirror, Arsenal are set to go head-to-head with Premier League rivals Chelsea in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, and they are ready to offer £15m for his services.
What’s the word, then?
da betsson: Well, the Sunday Mirror says both London clubs have been closely monitoring the attacker following his £12m move from Genk during the summer, and he has impressed with the 20-year-old’s performances.
The Sunday Mirror says that clubs in Italy and Spain are also keen on the Jamaican, but the English clubs appear to hold the advantage in attracting the youngster.
The report adds that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sees a £15m swoop for the wide-man as a sound investment, but his Premier League counterpart Antonio Conte believes Bailey is a potential long-term replacement for Willian.
How has Bailey done this season?
He has done very well.
Despite starting in the opening day defeat against Bayern Munich, the 20-year-old then didn’t start any of Leverkusen’s following four Bundesliga fixtures.
However, he has largely been a regular in the XI since then and has scored four goals and provided a further five assists in 13 German top flight games prior to their clash against Hannover on Sunday.
As well as showing how much of a threat he can be in terms of goals and assists, Bailey is also super quick and loves to beat opponents and according to WhoScored.com he has successfully completed 21 of the 45 dribbles he has attempted.
Would he be a good signing for Arsenal?
He certainly would be.
While the winger certainly isn’t the finished article yet, he looks to have bags of potential and has all of the attributes to be a real threat in the Premier League.
If the Gunners were able to get the 20-year-old for just £15m in the current market that would prove to be a huge coup, but it seems unlikely that Leverkusen would only look to make a £3m profit on a player that is doing so well for them.
Chelsea’s interest could also be a problem, with Conte likely to be desperate to make up for a disappointing summer transfer window by bringing in new players in January.
