da brwin: Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has placed Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone as his number one target to replace Ronald Koeman, according to Sky Sports News.
What’s the word?
da esport bet: The Merseyside outfit have had Under-23s coach David Unsworth in charge since the dismissal of Koeman, who guided the team to just two wins in nine Premier League games.
It seems, though, that the board have other targets in mind for the full-time position.
Sky Sports News claims that Moshiri has included Simeone as one of four potential candidates for the job, and the Argentine sits at the top of the list.
The report adds that the Atletico boss, who has been in charge of the Spanish club since 2011, is happy in his current position after making a U-turn and signing a new contract in September.
Are Everton good enough for Simeone?
Given that the 47-year-old is used to challenging for league titles and Champions League trophies, moving to a club with Everton’s current predicament would be a shock.
As it stands, the Toffees are just two points above the relegation zone after picking up just three wins in 11 outings.
If Simeone was to come in, he would be tasked with boosting morale and dragging the club up the table.
While the Argentine may be equipped to doing so, it would not make sense for him to leave Atletico mid-season, particularly as the club currently sit fourth in La Liga.
It is important for Everton to aim high, but targeting Simeone is too ambitious.
