da wazamba: Sheffield Wednesday, like seemingly have of the Championship, are dreaming of arriving in the Premier League for the riches and acclaim in brings. However, in such an astonishingly competitive division, Wednesday are going to need to perform above themselves to achieve automatic promotion, and avoid the play-off lottery – that has proved a curse for so many sides before.
da bet7k: Liverpool, meanwhile, face the prospect of another season of mediocrity, despite the arrival of Jurgen Klopp, and are sat in the tedious mid-table with little prospect of development until the summer of investment under the charismatic German.
It is a season that will be written off by Reds worldwide, but Klopp must be thinking of how he can use these couple of months to develop a few players that could easily have been written off.
The return to fitness of Daniel Sturridge has lifted the mood around Anfield, but there is still a cautious feeling to the optimism that it is only a temporary return to the pitch..
Liverpool could use these remaining months to give some of their youngsters and outcasts some vital first-team experience in the Championship and what better place than Sheffield Wednesday..
Jon Flanagan
Defence is often the difference between whether a side can achieve their goals, or not – just ask Brendan Rodgers. With this in mind, adding a defender of Premier League experience to Wednesday’s back line could only be a positive move as they approach the defining few games of their campaign.
As we all know, the Scouse Cafu can play at right or left back and would surely be a class above most Championship wingers.
Divock Origi
Sturridge, Benteke and Firmino are the leading contenders for Klopp’s number 9 role at the moment, so Divock Origi is left competing for one of the wide roles.
Forestieri and Hooper have been excellent for the Yorkshire club so far this season, but a player of Origi’s calibre would certainly keep the club’s top goal scorers on their toes.
Origi was disappointing during his loan spell last season and a step down to Championship football could help to restore confidence.
Ryan McLaughlin
The Northern-Irish full-back combines the old-school defensive industry of the role with the modern attacking flair and has already represented his country at the highest level.
Having recently returned from a loan spell with Aberdeen, the youngster would definitely be up to the challenge of a Championship promotion scrap and could easily provide backup in the Wednesday squad.
Joao Carlos Teixeira
Teixeira has been a buzz word around Anfield of late, but this playmaker isn’t quite the star that the Reds hoped to be signing in January.
However, despite a broken leg, Teixeira has impressed people at the club since signing from Sporting – where he had come through their excellent academy – and is a regular training with the first team squad.
His game has been compared to the brilliant Portuguese playmaker Deco and has had a previous loan spell in the Championship with Brighton, where he was hugely successful. Jurgen Klopp is impressed with the youngster and a spell at Wednesday could be the step he needs to make it into the squad on a more regular basis next season.
Jerome Sinclair
Being the youngest player to ever represent Liverpool comes with a huge amount of pressure to develop into a star, but Sinclair has yet to make that leap in his career.
The striker has continued to score goals for the under 21s since his debut in 2012, but his career seems to have stagnated somewhat. Although Hooper and Forestieri are scoring regularly, a bit of youthful enthusiasm could be the difference between promotion and failure.
