da betobet: It was only three minutes into yesterday’s game against Leyton Orient when the news of Colchester’s goal against Wednesday echoed around Bramall Lane, much to the delight of the Blades fans.
However this delight was short-lived as Orient’s Kevin Lisbie took advantage of a Harry Maguire mistake to place the ball calmly passed Steve Simonsen into the top-right hand corner of the goal on the 12th minute mark.
During the next ten ensuing minutes, the Blades played some great football but still struggled to break down a defensively minded Leyton Orient team. However only a moment of sheer brilliance by Jamie Jones in the Orient net denied a half volley by Stephen Quinn from the edge of the 18-yard box. As a result neither team could create a clear-cut chance and the only action of note was the injured Richard Cresswell being replaced by Chris Porter. This enforced substitution turned out to be a decisive moment in the match as Porter was involved in the Blades equaliser. He knocked down a direct ball from Maguire and the ball fell to Ched Evans who drilled it across to Lee Williamson who smashed the ball past the Orient keeper.
The goal provided a much-needed spark for the Blades who took control of the match up until the break. With Wednesday still behind at half-time we knew that a victory would be all so valuable for United. The second-half saw a typically dominant performance by the confident Blades who continued to attack the Orient goal and they got their reward on the 54th minute as captain fantastic Michael Doyle struck a stunning long-range effort that nestled in the back of the net.
Things were to get worse for struggling Orient as Ryan Dickson was dismissed for a two-footed tackle on Williamson. With the numerical advantage on their side the Blades were able to exploit the extra man.
The win was then confirmed by that man Ched Evans who coolly took on two defenders and slotted the ball under the keeper for this 35th goal of the season and his 10th in the last seven games. Celebrations were soon in order as word passed around the Lane that Wednesday had failed to beat Colchester and a four point gap had opened up between us and our City rivals.
Looking back on the game I must say that my man of the match was Michael Doyle who not only hit a vital goal but also put in 100% effort, not giving Orient’s midfield an inch of space. He certainly looks to be oozing with confidence at the moment and is surely demonstrating that we are much more than a one man team.
Overall it was a great three points in the fight for promotion especially with our rivals dropping points at this critical stage of the season. Looking to the next three games I’m feeling very confident of promotion and hopefully we can achieve that in front of a live TV audience on the 28th April at Stevenage. Up The Blades.
