da betway: Liverpool’s Ben Woodburn has the chance to make an impression this season and so far he has taken his opportunity with both hands.
Track Record
The 19-year-old became Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer when he found the net in a League Cup match against Leeds in 2017, just 45 days after his 17th birthday.
He then made 10 more appearances under Jurgen Klopp, including four starts, before he joined Sheffield United on loan at the end of last season, where he played eight times in the Blades’ promotion campaign but failed to contribute a goal or an assist.
As a result, he had to drop down a level this summer for his next loan move at Oxford United, but has settled well playing under Karl Robinson and could be in for a successful season.
He has featured in every game so far this season, and that will be crucial to his development. The experience of professional football, where games are more physical and intense, should help him a great deal.
The early signs are encouraging
In his seven appearances so far Woodburn has one goal and one assist to his name, but despite showing positive signs and contributing to the team, his side have won just two of those games – although they did defeat Millwall in the League Cup on Tuesday, with Woodburn scoring in the penalty shoot-out.
He has often featured as a winger for Liverpool but so far has played primarily as an attacking midfielder – given freedom to roam around the lone striker. As a result, he has been able to achieve an impressive average of five successful dribbles per game, which suggests he is showing his ambition and bravery and looking to move his team in the right direction.

The positive for the player and Liverpool is that he is playing in a side which likes to keep the ball and under a manager who usually employs possession-based football. That fits in well with Klopp’s own brand of play, albeit lacking the same intensity off the ball, and gives Woodburn the chance to acclimatise to it away from Anfield.
