da mrbet: Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has been targeted by Barcelona, as the Spanish giants’ pursuit of Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho hits a snag, according to The Independent.
What’s the story?
da bet sport: The European giants are believed to be keen to recruit a new midfielder this summer.
Coutinho has seemingly been the main target, but Liverpool have made it clear that the playmaker will not leave Anfield this summer.
The Reds released a statement on their official website confirming as much.
“We wish to offer clarity as regards our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho. The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes.”
The Independent reports that Barcelona were prepared for Liverpool to make their stance official, so had already switched focus to Eriksen by making initial contact through intermediaries.
The publication claims that the Catalan club are keen to find a replacement for Neymar and eventual successor to Andres Iniesta.
It is believed that the powers that be at Barcelona think that Eriksen would suit the club’s style, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is likely to only consider a possible deal if the bid is in excess of £100m.
Will this summer end as a nightmare for Spurs?
Unless the North London club announce a shock transfer in the next 48 hours, the team will begin their Premier League campaign without any new players.
Tottenham are the only club out of last season’s top seven to not strengthen as yet, with their only significant piece of business being the sale of right-back Kyle Walker to rivals Manchester City.
Eriksen, who joined Spurs from Ajax in 2013, has been a key player in Mauricio Pochettino’s side over the last few years.
The Dane started 36 Premier League matches last season, scoring eight goals and registering 15 assists.
Losing Eriksen would be a huge blow to the club and could severely impact the club’s chances of pushing for the Premier League title.
It has not been a good week for Tottenham following Danny Rose’s outburst about his wages and the club’s ambition.
In an interview with the Sun, the England international suggested that he deserves better wages and that the club must target world-class players in the transfer market.
