With Leeds United’s season on hold for the time being, The Athletic’s Phil Hay has been answering questions from supporters and one response is sure to have some salivating at Elland Road.
What’s he said?
The Whites are currently under a fixture suspension given the pandemic sweeping the globe at the minute, which is probably the last thing they needed after a run of five straight wins.
That form has seen them go seven points clear of the playoffs with only nine games remaining, so there are well on track to end that 16-year absence from the top-flight.
One fan posed a question to Hay on who he’d cherry-pick from a rival, whereby he responded with Fulham talisman Aleksander Mitrovic – a player many would probably dream for at Leeds.
Speaking in the recent Q&A, he said:
Leeds’ dream
The west Yorkshiremen may be clear at the top of the Championship table right now, but they probably could be holding the throne by an even greater margin had they had a forward that converted chances more often than Patrick Bamford.
He’s still managed to find the net 13 times this campaign, but Leeds hold the third-worst chance conversion rate in the division at just 13.6%, scoring 56 goals from a staggering 412 shots on target.

Mitrovic, who is valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, has been a prolific marksman for the third-placed Cottagers this term, scoring 23 goals in only 34 league outings.
These sorts of exploits would be hugely welcome at Elland Road but you’d imagine any deal, for the time being, would be a mere pipedream.
That could, of course, change should Leeds go up and Fulham get condemned to another season in the second tier of English football.
What could’ve been… Can you name the clubs these football legends almost joined?
The lure of playing in the Premier League once again could see the Serb try and strike a move this summer, but as mentioned, that remains to be seen just yet.
21 goals from 77 career appearances in the top-flight is a very good attempt from him, too.
And in other news, Leeds FLOP’s season changed after HUGE injury…
